Welcome, Joey!

Please join us in welcoming Joey, our rescued red kangaroo joey, to the Animal Tracks family!

Joey came to us through our trusted partner sanctuary, Conservation Ambassadors, and from the moment he arrived, he completely captured our hearts. At just about six months old, he is still very much a baby — bright-eyed, curious, and happiest when snuggled safely inside his pouch.

In the wild, red kangaroo joeys spend many months tucked securely in their mother’s pouch, emerging slowly as they gain confidence and strength. Joey is right at that beautiful in-between stage: big enough to peek out at the world, but still very comforted by the warmth and security of “home base.”

Our Director Stacy and our dedicated volunteer team are providing him with specialized, round-the-clock care that mirrors what a mother kangaroo would offer — proper nutrition, warmth, gentle guidance, and lots of reassurance as he grows. Every step of Joey’s development is thoughtful and intentional, always centered on his physical and emotional well-being.

Meeting the Mob

One of the most exciting milestones ahead?

Soon, Joey will begin the gradual process of being introduced to the rest of the mob — our four adult red kangaroos who already call Animal Tracks home.

Kangaroos are social animals, and a group of kangaroos is known as a “mob.” Careful introductions are incredibly important. We move slowly and respectfully, allowing everyone time to see, smell, and become familiar with one another in a calm, controlled way. Our goal is to ensure Joey feels confident and secure as he takes this next big step into kangaroo community life.

Watching a young joey integrate into a mob is always a special experience. There’s curiosity, communication, gentle boundary-setting — and eventually, companionship. We can’t wait to see Joey learning from the others, strengthening his iconic hops, and growing into the powerful, majestic red kangaroo he’s meant to be.

Joey’s journey is possible because of our supporters — every visit, donation, and volunteer hour helps provide animals like him with lifelong care and a safe, respectful environment to thrive.

Stay tuned for updates on Joey’s first introductions. This is just the beginning of his wild and wonderful story!

Keep the world wild,

The Animal Tracks Team
