At Animal Tracks, we live every day with open hearts—celebrating the joy of rescue and healing, while also facing the painful reality of saying goodbye. Last week was one of those bittersweet moments that remind us just how deeply we love the animals in our care.
With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to two incredible residents: Monzo, our 21-year-old African serval, and Keeva, our gentle and shy coyote-wolf hybrid. Both had been living with cancer, and when their bodies told us it was time, we made the decision to help them cross the Rainbow Bridge peacefully, surrounded by the people who loved them.

Monzo was one of our very first rescues, arriving at Animal Tracks in 2005 when he was just eight months old. He had been confiscated from an owner keeping him illegally, and his journey with us spanned two decades of care, enrichment, and connection. Over the years, Monzo became a fixture at the sanctuary—wise, calm, and even a father figure to younger serval, Mischief. His presence filled his enclosure and our hearts. To say we miss him is an understatement.
Keeva came to us in 2017 from a heartbreaking hoarding case in Northern California. When she arrived, she was terrified of humans—understandably so. For months, we simply sat with her, speaking gently, giving her the space to trust again. And slowly, she did. Though she remained shy, Keeva formed deep bonds with the few people she chose as her own. Her love was subtle but fierce, and her quirky head-rubbing rituals left us all smiling. Her transformation over the years was nothing short of magical!
While grief weighs heavy, so does our purpose—and we’re reminded every day why this work matters. And today, we’re also able to share some joyful news.

We’ve just welcomed four new rescues into our sanctuary family: three ferrets (Seal, Otter and Polar Bear) and two sugar gliders (Salt & Pepper), all in need of safety, care, and a forever home.
Though small in size, these animals have big personalities—and even bigger stories to tell. Each one was rescued from situations that no animal should endure. We’ll be sharing more about their journeys, so stay tuned!

Our mission never stops. We are committed to giving rescued animals the best life possible, educating the public about the realities of the exotic pet trade, and advocating for a world where wild animals stay wild—where they belong.
To all who support us—through donations, visits, shares, and kind words—thank you. You are part of every rescue story and every peaceful goodbye. We carry on because we must. Because they need us.
And we’ll never stop saying it: Keep wildlife wild!
